Collapse rates of reinforced concrete structures during large magnitude earthquakes: case study for Romania

Abstract This case study focuses on the evaluation of collapse rates various types reinforced concrete structures (residential and industrial) as observed from data collected in Romania after M w 7.4 Vrancea earthquake March 4, 1977. The results analyses show that largest were attributed to elevated silos water tanks. Moreover, majority collapsed tanks full at moment seismic event. Very small for high-rise residential RC multi-storey industrial structures.
